Precondition statements must go at the start of your method. The Requires method takes two parameters. The first is a bool, which is the condition you want to check for; in this case, I want to be sure that the second parameter to my method isn t zero. The second parameter to the Requires method is the message that should be displayed if the contract is broken. In this case, my message is Second parameter is zero. Precondition contracts are placed at the start of your method. You can check any condition you are interested in. The Requires method may seem similar to some of the Debug methods we saw earlier, and they do have a lot in common. The differences will become apparent when we come to the other contracts and the way in which contracts are enforced. You can have as many precondition contracts as you need. Here is an example of multiple conditions applied to the CalculateSum method: public int CalculateSum(int x, int y) { Contract.Requires(x > 0, "First parameter is zero"); Contract.Requires(x > y, "First parameter is not > than second parameter"); return x + y; } These preconditions check that the first parameter isn t zero and that the value of the first parameter is greater than the value of the second.
